The Mission of the Lodge
The mission of the lodge is to achieve the purpose of the Order of the Arrow as an integral part of the Boy Scouts of America in the council through positive youth leadership under the guidance of selected capable adults.
The Lodge
Kiskakon Lodge is chartered to the Anthony Wayne Area Council and covers all 11 counties. The Lodge is led by 6 youth that are elected annually to be Lodge Officers. Together with youth officers from each district, they make up the Lodge Executive Committee: (shown are 2006-2007 officers)

The Goals
The goals of the Order of the Arrow are:
- To recognize those Scouts and Scouters who live and act according to the values of the Scout Oath and Law.
- To promote camping and develop leadership.
- To crystallize the Scouting tradition of cheerful service to others.
The Levels
There are three levels of membership in the Order:
Ordeal = Completion of Ordeal
Brotherhood = Ordeal Sash with Red Bars = 10 months as an Ordeal Member and completion of Brotherhood Class
Vigil Honor = Brotherhood Sash with Red Triangle = 2 years as a Brotherhood Member and nomination and selection by the Vigil Committee.
Attainment of each level can only come after undergoing the appropriate tests and completion of the appropriate ceremony.
The Election
A Scout or Scouter may go through the Ordeal only when they have met certain qualifications:
- Scout = Must be at least 1st Class, have 15 days and nights of camping, and be elected by the Scouts of his Troop.
- Scouter = Must have 15 days and nights of camping and be nominated by the Troop Committee.
The Ordeal
The Ordeal is the induction into the Order. Only those who have been elected may complete the Ordeal. If elected, a Scout or Scouter must complete the Ordeal within one year of the election. If not, he/she must be elected again the following year.
Kiskakon Lodge holds two Ordeals each year on the CCLT opening/closing weekends. The Ordeal is a series of tests meant to focus the candidate upon the solemn meaning of the Order. Upon completion of the Ordeal, the candidates go through a ceremony and are welcomed into the Order.
The Brotherhood
Any Ordeal member who has served their unit for at least 10 months since their Ordeal is eligible for Brotherhood membership. Kiskakon Lodge offers many opportunities for Brotherhood Conversion: A Brotherhood class and ceremony is offered at both our Spring and Fall Fellowships, as well as each week of Boy Scout Resident Camp at CCLT.
Obtaining Brotherhood membership requires that the candidate attend a Brotherhood class, to know the basics of membership in the Order, and write a letter to the Lodge Secretary. After these tasks have been completed, the candidate is eligible to go through the Brotherhood ceremony.
The Awards
There are a number of awards that one can earn as a member of Kiskakon Lodge. Some are part of the National Order of the Arrow program, and others are unique to our Lodge.
- The Vigil Honor
The third level of membership of the Order is a high mark of distinction reserved for those who provide exceptional service, personal effort, and unselfish interest to the Order, their unit, or Scouting in general. Members can only receive the Vigil Honor after approval of the National Order of the Arrow Committee.
- The Founder’s Award
The Founder’s Award honors those who have given outstanding service to their Lodge. The Award consists of a bronze medallion and a gold arrow suspended from a red ribbon for uniform wear.
- The Wischixin Award
In the language of the Delaware, “Wischixin” means “active one.” The award, which consists of a personalized plaque, is given to youth who have been active in the Lodge over a period of time.
- The Kiskakon Service Award
Also known as “The Newman Award,” both youth and adults can earn this award in a number of areas. The award consists of the pocket patch that complements the scene depicted on the standard lodge flaps, as well as a pin for each award earned. Different colors represent the different areas of the award. This award can be earned multiple times in each area.
